LISBON
Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and has the coordinates 38º 43' North, 9º 8' West, which makes it the most Western capital in continental Europe. The city is located in Western Portugal where the river Tejos' meets the Atlantic. The city occupies an area of 84.6 km². Unlike many other larger cities, Lisbon's borders are still identical to the historical borders, which mean that the city has a relatively large number of suburbs that have practically merged with Lisbon.
Lisbon's historical centre is situated on seven hills, which makes many of the city streets too steep for motor vehicles. The city also has three mountain railways and a lift. The Western part of the city consists mainly of one park, The Monsanto Park, which is one of the largest city parks in the world, with an area of nearly ten square kilometres.
